Genesis: The Hello

Hello and thank you for reading this, my first blog here. The first of what should be some good ones. Not only is this the genesis of this blog, but also the anniversary of my own start. So thank you to everyone who having taking a second to wish my birthday a good one!

After reviewing in my mind several topics I hoped might be worthy of comment, I have decided simply to make this first one biographical. I live with my wife of immense character and pulchritude here in Spokane, Washington, in one of those charming hidden neighborhoods you find in such cities. We call ours the Garland District, encompassing a few blocks of west Garland Ave businesses and their residential vicinity. Both my wife and I come from someplace else. Myself being drawn to the area from Sandpoint, Idaho, by the prospect of a degree in music, which I eventually gained from EWU. This degree is contained in cardboard somewhere in the basement and is emblazoned with something to the effect of "Bachelor's in Music - Saxophone Performance."

I am indeed a musician. Or maybe I should say an artist in general. Both my parents having effective talents of that same persuasion, I've been endowed with a great inclination to create stuff. This I enjoy very much, and the inclination has manifested itself mostly in the area of music, which I create most commonly using the saxophone and the flute, and at times using penny whistle, the Irish drum (a bodhran), clarinet, hand percussion, electric bass, and even on occasion my own voice (the cheapest instrument in my arsenal). Besides music, I also put a lot of my artistry on paper in the form of calligraphy and pencil sketches, and, most recently, I've tried to put it on the wall. This latter in the form of what can best be described as scroll work surface design. Right now pictures can be viewed most effectively on the Facebook page I have ascribed to my business. So I would ask you search Facebook for the page entitled "Falling Leaf Ornamentation" and 'like' me. (We artists are an insecure bunch and enjoy nothing more than people 'liking' us).

I am indeed many other things, but to further the biographical plain and finish this bit of writing, I'll tell you that I strive to know people, and I like to find what they are really like. You won't find a lot of politics here, nor a lot of complaining or accusing. You may find a bit of philosophy on which I hope you will give your comments, good or bad. A bit of humor you will also find, though a bit dry. I like to think this blog could be compared to my favorite coffee drink, a breve gingerbread latte: warm, wholesome, simple, sweet but you can still taste the beans. So if that makes any sense to you, I hope you will keep reading in the future.

Warmest regards,
Dusty Thomas
